RPQS, Kandla

Due to the globalization and liberalization in international trade of plant and plant material in the wake of Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement under WTO the movement of pest from one country to another is always possible. Therefore, to prevent the entry, establishment and spread of exotic pests in India as per the provisions of the Destructive Insect & Pests Act, 1914 Plant Quarantine Station, Kandla (Gandhidham) was established in April, 1999 near the Kandla Port. During June 2018, Plant Quarantine Station, Kandla (Gandhidham) was upgraded as Regional Plant Quarantine Station. There are 13 Notified ports in Gujarat (seaports of Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Kandla, Mundra, Mandvi, Navlakhi, Okha, Porbandar, Veraval, Pipavav, Hazira, Dahej; Ahmedabad airport) for the purpose of export/import of Agriculture commodities / Plant and Plant Products meant for consumption. A large number of consignments of Rice, Cotton, Rapeseed, Sesamum, Soybean meal, Rapeseed meal, Castor meal, Cumin, Fennel, Fenugreek, Cassia Tora, Senna leaves etc. are inspected and certified for export through this Station. While, the major commodities imported under RPQS Kandla are Timber logs and pulses. During FY 2023-24, RPQS Kandla and its sub stations under Gujarat inspected more than one lakh consignments for export inspection and issued 100064 PSCs for a quantity of 7.28 MMT agri-commodities. During import inspection, a quantity of 16.78 MMT was inspected, 75 quarantine and 1270 non-quarantine pests were intercepted and a total of 23833 Import Release Orders were issued. More than 144.65 Crore rupee fee was realized as inspection fee under Gujarat region during 23-24.

5. Plant Quarantine Station, Ahmedabad

Besides these, three offices of Gujarat State’s agriculture Department are also notified by Govt.of India for issuance of Phytosanitary certificates in export.
