The Locust Circle Office, Palanpur was established in the year 1939. This Office is about 179 Km. away from the Indo-Pak border.The entire area is cultivated during monsoon. Soil varies from place to place. Sandy to sandy loam in Banaskantha, black cotton soil in Saurashtra. Some of the important crops like Bajara, Guar, Til, Castor, Ramdana and Moth. However, in more fertile soil Groundnut, Wheat, Cumin, Cotton, Potato are also grown on fairly large scale. As far as LCO, Palanpur is concerned, there were five outposts, which were located at Palanpur,Tharad (B.K.), Bhuj (Kutch) under the Gujarat state and Sanchore, Jalore (Jalore) under Rajasthan state with circle H.Q. at Palanpur. After re-structuring of LWO outpost, Bhuj and Jalore has been set up as new circle office and LOP, Sanchore has been merged to LWO, Jalore and LOP, Tharad has been merged to LCO, Palanpur circle w.e.f. 01.05.2006. In the past, LWO, Palanpur was established in hired building at the Mansarovar road, Palanpur. After that, Govt.of India has constructed own building at Ambaji Highway, Opp. Adarsh Niwasi school and shifted in the year 1995.So far this circle has under taken major Desert Locust control operation during 1993 on large scale.
