The Locust Circle Office (LCO), Jaisalmer was established in the year 1993 previously known as LOP Jaisalmer which was established in the year 1939 in the Jaisalmer district. Jaisalmer District lies in the Thar Desert, which spread out the border of India and Pakistan . It is bounded on the North-East Bikaner, on the east by Jodhpur District, on the south Barmer district, and on the west and north by Pakistan. The length of international border attached to the district is 464 km. Jaisalmer is almost entirely a sandy waste, forming a part of the Great Indian Desert. The climate of district is almost dry. Throughout Jaisalmer only rainfed crops, such as Bajra, Guar, Jowar,Sesamum, etc., are grown in Kharif season and during Rabi season Wheat, Barley, etc., are grown rarely. After restructuring of Locust Warning Organization with the objective for monitoring and controlling the desert locust in the Scheduled Desert Area (SDA) of Rajasthan. Jaislamer district of Rajasthan is having long sparsely populated Indo-Pak border which provides gateway for infiltration of locust from west and north. This station works under the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage, Department of Agriculture, Co-operation & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
